Common Mistakes and Solutions in Sublimation Printing

Heat transfer printing is favored for its clear, durable patterns and vibrant, realistic colors in personalized and high-end printing. However, it demands precise data—minor errors can cause product failure. Below are common mistakes and their solutions.

First, the image is blurry, lacks detail, and the printed item has black or white spots on the surface.

Misalignment may occur if sublimation paper shifts during heat pressing or if dust, fibers, or residue is present on the substrate, press, or transfer paper. To prevent this, secure the paper with high-temperature tape at all four corners, clean the substrate and press platen before use, and regularly remove contaminants while maintaining a clean workspace.

Second, the finished product is incomplete or the sublimation is incomplete.

This often occurs due to insufficient temperature or time, leading to incomplete ink sublimation and penetration, or due to an uneven or deformed heat press platen or base plate. Before use, verify correct settings—typically 130°C–140°C for 4–6 minutes—and regularly inspect equipment, replacing the heating plate if needed.

Third, 3D transfer printing shows incomplete printing marks.

Possible causes include wet ink on the printed film, moisture exposure after opening, or insufficient heating of the heat transfer press. Solutions: dry the film in an oven post-printing (50–55°C, 20 minutes); for solid or dark designs, use a hairdryer for 5–10 seconds before transfer; seal and store the film immediately after opening in an environment with humidity below 50%; preheat the mold for 20 minutes before printing, with oven temperature not exceeding 135°C.
